Heinen saves
Lyon, ousted from the UEFA Champions League in the first group stage, threw everything into the game as they searched for an equaliser but goalkeeper Dirk Heinen produced numerous dramatic saves to keep the hosts at bay.
Juninho break
Lyon midfield player Juninho Pernambucano broke down the right flank in the 17th minute, with three players waiting in the box ready to pounce, but his poor cross was easily cleared. Minutes later, Vikash Dhorasoo raced into the penalty area and unleashed a fierce shot which was somehow cleared off the line by the combined efforts of Denizlispor defenders Ali Tandogan and Hakan Cimen.
Lyon chances
Heinen saved a shot from playmaker Eric Carrière in the 65th minute before diving well to deny captain Sonny Anderson four minutes later as the hosts continued to push forward. Defender Claudio Caçapa also volleyed wide from inside the box with just six minutes to go, but by that stage Lyon looked resigned to their fate. Denizlispor therefore move into tomorrow's fourth-round draw while Lyon must now concentrate on defending their domestic crown.
