Leaving Levante
The 31-year-old arrives on a free transfer from relegated Levante UD, subject to a medical, and is expected to compete with No1 Santiago Cañizares, with current deputy Andrés Palop's future uncertain. He joins Brazilian midfielder Edu in linking up with new Valencia coach Quique Sánchez Flores, although the signing of Dutch striker Patrick Kluivert remains on hold after a knee problem was detected during a medical last week.
Caneira's new contract
Valencia have also agreed a contract extension with defender Marco Caneira, keeping him at the Mestalla until 2011. The Portuguese player, who signed last summer from FC Girondins de Bordeaux, made 22 league appearances in 2004/05. "I want to help make this club even bigger, and would like to end my career here," Caneira said.
July date
UEFA Cup winners in 2003/04, Valencia finished seventh in the Primera División this season and will start their Intertoto Cup bid in the third round on 16/17 July, with the away leg of a tie against one of Bohemian FC, KAA Gent, FC Neman Grodno and FC Zlín.
