Panathinaikos FC have dismissed coach Fabriciano González Penelas in the wake of Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by Platanias FC, with former player Giannis Vonortas taking up the reins until the end of the season.
The 57-year-old, also known as Fabri, leaves Panathinaikos along with his assistant Ferreira King, and with the Greens sixth in the Greek Super League, 35 points behind champions Olympiacos FC. Vonortas, meanwhile, becomes the Athens outfit's fourth coaching appointment of the campaign and is tasked with securing a top-five finish in order to compete for a European spot in the end-of-season play-offs.
A club statement read: "Panathinaikos would like to thank Mr Fabri and his assistant Ferreira King for all their work during a crucial period for the club and wish them both the best of luck for the future."
