Originally elected in 2019, the 43-year-old's extensive experience in sports development has brought much progress to Armenian football, both at elite and national team level as well as in grassroots and community programmes.
In 2022, as the FFA celebrated its 30th anniversary, UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin joined Mr Melikbekyan at the opening of Armenia's renovated City Stadium in Abovyan, refurbished with the help of funding from UEFA’s HatTrick development programme. The FFA also plans to construct a new national stadium in Yerevan.
Mr Melikbekyan's new term runs until 2026.
